May go-signal na ng House Speaker ang pagpapalabas ng video sa susunod na hearing ng committee on justice.

MANILA – Liberal Party (LP) senators on Thursday took up the cudgels for Senator Leila de Lima amid plans of allies of President Rodrigo Duterte to play at a House hearing her alleged sex video.

Duterte’s allies, including House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez and Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II, said they see nothing wrong with playing the alleged sex video of De Lima and her former driver, Ronnie Dayan.

They said the sex video would help in establishing the ties of the two, amid allegations Dayan received Bilibid drug money for De Lima.

But De Lima’s fellow LP senators Francis Pangilinan, Franklin Drilon and Bam Aquino slammed the plan, saying it is “disrespectful, deplorable, and illegal.”

“Regardless of the authenticity of the alleged videos, viewing it is disrespectful to a sitting senator, to her person, and to the office she holds, and is violative of the law,” the three LP senators said in a joint statement.

The senators said to show the video would violate the Anti-Voyeurism Law, Anti-Wiretapping Law, and the Revised Penal Code on Crimes against Honor.

“We appeal to the members of House of Representatives to be more circumspect of our larger roles as legislators: safekeepers of governance traditions and examples to our children,” the senators said.

Alvarez has given the go-signal for the House committee on justice to play the video in its next hearing.

“Tinanong ako kahapon, kung saka-sakali lang na may mag-presenta niyan, papayagan ko bang ilabas ito sa committee [I was asked yesterday, if ever someone will present the video, would I allow it to be shown to the committee]," he told radio DZMM.

"Sabi ko, wala namang problema, kung sa pagpalabas noon ay may makuha tayong katotohanan [I said there’s no problem with that, if showing it we’ll give us the truth], so be it."

De Lima has repeatedly denied the allegations against her, and has even dared President Rodrigo Duterte to just have her arrested.
