Bato seeks identities of two cops who failed to help taxi passengers
Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa on Monday vowed to identify the two policemen who allegedly did not help two taxi passengers who were being duped by the driver.
At a press briefing, Dela Rosa said based on the information reaching him, the two were "apparently very negligent" of their duties.
"Merong humingi ng assistance then hindi naman umaksyon, hindi inaksyunan. Ipapahanap ko itong mga pulis na ito. Bakit ganun yung ugali nila?" he said.
Siblings Janine and Jeffrey Reyes were at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal III when a man offered them a taxi that would bring them to a bus station in Cubao, Quezon City.
The two accepted the offer, as the taxi was using regular meter. However, they were surprised when even the barker boarded the taxi. The driver charged them P3,600 for the entire trip.
Thinking that the driver and barker might harm them, the siblings thought of letting the taxi stop near a police station. The two instead saw a mobile patrol.
"Nung naramdaman nila na magsusumbong kami sa pulis, dun na nagpunta sila sa compartment at pinagbabalibag na iyong mga maleta namin," Janine told GMA News in an interview.
Janine and Jeffrey ran toward the two policemen to complain the taxi driver. They said the taxi sped off even if its doors were still open.
The siblings said the police officers, however, did nothing to help them or to chase the taxi driver.
“Mismong sa harapan po nila tapos medyo traffic pa. Kitang kita pa habang nagsusumbong kami, bukas yung pintuan ng taxi. Tapos yung mga pulis po ang sabi ‘E wala naman palang nakuha sa inyo e. E kayo pa pala ang nakaloko kasi hindi n’yo nabayaran ng pamasahe.’ Hindi na lang po kami nakipagtalo,” said Jeffrey.
.
The mobile patrol has marking of HPU4A and a plate number of SKA 945.
Dela Rosa said he will seek the explanation of the two police officers.
“Pagpaliwanagin natin, pag hindi tayo satisfied sa explanation then tignan natin. Ang importante makilala sila,” he said.
The PNP chief said the police officers could face administrative sanctions for their inaction.
“Administrative [sanction] sa simple neglect of duty, grave neglect of duty, trabaho nila yun e. Ngayon ipatawag ko na, ipa-identify yung tao,” he said.
